Bob called first
thing this morning wanting to meet at the project site as early as possible.
Would Nine be Ok Bob? Yes I will see you there. I went to see if Christine
wanted to go and she was up and ready to leave. Did Bob call you yet? Yes.
We talked until One this morning and he was hoping I would come with you
today. We are about thirty minutes away. I will call Joe and see if he is
busy. And you make coffee and toast and I will take a shower and be ready in
ten minutes.....After dressing I had coffee and toast and Christine was very
nervous, waiting to go. I still had time for more coffee and toast. I went
to the bathroom and Joe called So we were on our way. I called Fay and
asked her about the property behind our project and she had checked into it
last year and he said he would trade for other property but he would not
sell in outright.
We arrived and Bob
started talking and spreading plans on the hood of the limo. Joe got out and
he was not liking what was going on and I patted the air and nodded, he
calmed down. Bob never looked up. What he had was a larger version that was
more complete than what we saw before. This will work. Kay it works out to
about one cluster of four homes per one acre of land or one thousand homes.
Can I keep this drawing? Yes you can. Complete plans, permits and billboards
and a starting date for roads and construction? Plans and permits in three
weeks billboards the same and roads the day I have the permits in hand. The
construction in about six weeks. Bob how long to complete the entire project
including the pools, wetlands and trees. About six to eight months depending
on the weather. Bob can You take Christine back for me, I have an errand to
run, I will call you this afternoon.
I called Fay and we
both went to Mr. Shields' place. As we arrived he was sleeping on the porch
swing. It woke him when Joe shut the door. Hello ladies Its nice to see you
both. I was napping, waiting for your arrival. Hello again Mr. Shields. I
have news for you about the project. Please come in. We entered the living
room and a table for six sat in the middle of the room. Can I show you
drawings of what we have come up with. I explained the roads and housing and
the playgrounds with pools. The wetlands The grape and berry vines. The
fruit trees, solar field and the cluster homes. He said wonderful several
times as I talked and when I finished telling the time schedule and about
the billboards he smiled at me and said. I have thought about this for years
and You have taken everything I told you and added so much more. Miss
Brown....I am....I'm so pleased with you and the work you have done for me,
Is this ready to happen or is this an old man's dream? Mr. Shields it can
happen when you want it to happen. The plans are being drawn as we speak and
the permits are about three weeks away. As I said the bill boards will be up
as soon as possible. Let's make it happen now.
Fay would you put
the paper work together for me. I want to sign all the land over to the two
of you and give Miss Brown power of attorney over all my money in my trust
and savings and checking account. Mr. Shields, please call me Kay. Thank you
dear I surely will. This will be the start of the "Shields Foundation" I
like that, It sounds important. You are important You will be helping
thousands of people for a long time. Now I feel good, thank you both for all
your work. Fay said I will bring the paper work by this afternoon. That will
be fine dear, I will see you then. Please excuse me ladies. Good bye now.
Good bye.
We stopped for lunch
and Joe joined us. We ordered and Fay received a call and talked and hung
up. Mr. Shields wants his house to go to the foundation, he also owns
several apartment buildings and several other properties he has deeds for to
go to the foundation too. I will need to go back to talk to him before we
can do this. I will do all I can and Jenny can go with us and we take him to
his bank to sign all the paperwork. Jenny is an attorney in New York state.
We finished eating and went home, Fay started on the paperwork for the
foundation and I went to talk to Jenny, I caught her up to speed and she had
some good Ideas. She said we can start a corporation and he can sign
everything over to it. And then we can open a foundation with what we want
to put into it out of the corporation's funds but it will always be a
corporation with a foundation. Ok I will tell Fay what we are doing. After
explaining everything, she set up a time with the bank to transfer
everything to me from Mr. Shields' name to mine. Fay called him and said we
would pick him up and he said no, bring the bank manager to me. I called his
bank and told him that Mr. Shields wanted a meeting with him at his home.
Fay and I went to
the bank and told the manager that I wanted all the funds from Mr. Shields
trust, savings and checking transferred to my new account in his bank. And
they did all the paperwork and told me he would have to sign
everything....My limo is waiting outside He is expecting us at his home. We
arrived there in a few minutes. Hello all I'm so glad you could do this
thing for me today. We went inside and Mr. Shields said Did she tell you
what I wanted. Yes she did. What are you doing with all your money? I'm
having a thousand homes built on my property to help thousands of people,
and time is very short and I need the transfer done today. Anything you say,
Mr. Shields we need you to sign four places. Yes, thank you. Do you have
money to live on. I will need no money where I'm going. I'm taking a very
long cruise.
Fay had all the
deeds for the property she was holding and he signed the releases for them.
Then he came out with nine more for property he owns that he wants to turn
over to us, and Fay made out releases for them and he signed all of them, I
think that takes care of all of the paperwork and I want to thank you all
again for coming to help me. Kay I want you to have this and he sat a
suitcase on the table. You do what ever you want with it. You are not
obligated to keep any of it but I want you to have it. Thank you Mr.
Shields. There are notes on most of the things, You will enjoy some of it
I'm sure. Thank you again. I want to say good bye to all of you I may not
see you again, I will be leaving very soon. Kay I hope to see you very soon.
We drove back to
the bank and went in to sigh the papers on my checking and saving accounts.
Miss Brown how do you want to do this. The checking is "The Shields
Foundation", and I want my name as senior president and Fay as Junior vice
president And Jenny as attorney and they will be two others later and we
will get all the names and spelling and signatures correct but for now the
first two names. Here is your bank book with your deposit amount, that is
all three accounts added together and it comes to two hundred
and ninety eight million, nine hundred and ninety seven thousand, nine
hundred and ninety six dollars and ten cents............KB
